Independence

"Educate a girl, and you educate a family". A very famous quote which everyone uses to show that our society has developed so much.

But the fact is, this quote is used just for the sake of show off. Equality among men and women is a myth.
Everybody is educating their girl child these days so that in future she becomes an independent woman. So that she can excel in each and every aspect of life and show that she is not far behind men. In fact they can do better jobs than them.

But being a "married" Software Engineer , I can firmly say that this is not what is expected from women. It starts right from her birth. The expectations' list is vast.

Yes, your parents respect your education, merit and independence, but they too have this in the back of their mind that they have to get their daughter married. they too expect that once you get married you have to take care of your new family and agree to what they wish from you.

Your husband having the same qualifications as you, is the only one I guess who doesn't have any expectations from you, apart from keeping his family together.

Your new family especially the elderly people, or you can say people who belong to the earlier generation, have millions of expectations from you that needs a voluptuous blog. The end to this is that you can never ever change their thinking.

But sometimes you start feeling guilty about reacting weirdly to their Orthodox thoughts or reactions. But I can't find a proper solution to this. Whether to just listen and accept whatever they say or to listen to your own thinking and independence. There is no middle way. You can't keep everybody happily connected to you. I don't know why this is the responsibility of women to keep everybody in the family together and especially the daughter in law of the family. Adjustment and Compromise is the key for happiness in Indian Society, but it should on both ends.

Whatever be the case, a girl is considered to fulfill everybody's expectations, but no one will ever bother to think what goes on inside her head. You are expected to be perfect in all senses but you should never enjoy your freedom or decide something on your own. And dare not her husband support her, otherwise the blame is on her for brain washing her husband though he is not a 3 year old kid who doesn't understand anything.

We call this 21st century, but I cannot see anything being changed in the Society since ancient era, when it comes to this topic. Our mothers and mother-in-laws faced this and now we are facing the same. I hope something gets changed for our next generation girls.

Hoping for a Brighter Future!!!
